WHAT FIRST SPARKED YOUR PASSION FOR FLORAL DESIGN?

I've always been obsessed with flowers and as an adult I really wanted to have fresh flowers in my home. So, over the years I kept practicing and refining my designs until I found my style.  It is funny to think back to when I was a child and even then I used to "study" and analyze floral arrangements at people's houses or places I would visit.

CAN YOU TAKE US THROUGH YOUR PROCESS FOR YOUR FLORA MANNEQUIN?

I wanted our mannequin to feel couture, but still capture the essence of Flora, the goddess of flowers and spring. When I was thinking through the design, I wanted her to feel a part of the flowers like they were united together, growing as one. I was inspired by couture gowns I had seen on the runway that had a lot of movement which I tried to capture in the design of her dress.

IS THERE AN OUTSTANDING FLOWER THAT HAS PLAYED A ROLE IN A KEY MOMENT OF YOUR LIFE?

When I was a child I used to collect the petals from a neighbor's Magnolia tree in the spring. To this day, magnolia holds such a special place in my heart.

WHAT IS THE MOST UNDERRATED FLOWER IN YOUR OPINION?

The most underrated flower is definitely mimosa. The fragrance is intoxicating and it's just so perfect.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR NEW FLORISTS CREATING THEIR FIRST FLORAL MANNEQUIN THIS YEAR AT A FLEURS DE VILLES SHOW?

I would suggest really planning your mechanics out before the show, test different materials and flowers to ensure they will hold up and have a specific plan on how to update, refresh and adjust during the show as needed.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

Aside from being surrounded by gorgeous flowers all day, I love bringing joy to people with flowers.  The smile on their face when they see our flowers is the best part of my job.

A NOTE FROM FLEURS DE VILLES:

The Petal, designing their first ever mannequin for The Westin in Edina, triumphed in every way. The lovely green based FLORA dress anchored the perfect chaos of florals all over her skirt. This is a showcase for what Fleurs de Villes is all about. It takes time to enjoy it all. It surprises as one discovers yet a new bloom or variety sweeping over the skirt. Then looking up to see th crowning glory in a fabulous dried headpiece that is so artistic and delightful!
