WITH MULTIPLE FLEURS DE VILLES SHOWS UNDER YOUR BELT, HAS THERE BEEN A SPECIFIC INSTALLATION THAT STANDS OUT TO YOU?

This year marked my third consecutive participation, and each installation has been special in its own way. Every new theme challenges my creativity and brings something new into my life. For example, last year I watched all six seasons of Downton Abbey to accurately create the character of Matthew, and I believe that level of dedication was reflected in the final result.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR NEW FLORISTS CREATING THEIR FIRST FLORAL MANNEQUIN THIS YEAR AT A FLEURS DE VILLES SHOW?

Use the opportunity to experiment with new and interesting flowers, push your creative limits, and most importantly – have fun. Don’t be afraid to break a few rules along the way.

WHAT FIRST SPARKED YOUR PASSION FOR FLORAL DESIGN?

I am a landscape designer, and I have always loved plants just as much as flowers. I come from Bulgaria, a country with deep-rooted gardening traditions and a strong appreciation for flowers. My mother and grandmother both had beautiful gardens filled with seasonal blooms, which inspired my passion from an early age.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

Every project is unique because every client is different. While I bring my own design perspective and aesthetic, I always strive to listen carefully and create something new that reflects each client’s vision. This process helps me grow, evolve, and continue innovating.

HAS FLEURS DE VILLES INFLUENCED YOUR APPROACH TO FLORAL DESIGN IN OTHER ASPECTS OF YOUR BUSINESS?

I consider myself more of a plant designer than a traditional florist, but Fleurs de Villes has truly pushed me to think outside the box and expand my creativity. In my work, I often face challenges that require innovative solutions. Last year, I had to complete a project within a very tight timeframe, and at one point it felt nearly impossible. However, I kept reminding myself that if I can create a human figure out of flowers, I can accomplish anything.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE YOU SEE PEOPLE MAKING WHEN IT COMES TO CHOOSING FLOWERS?

One of the biggest mistakes is focusing only on appearance rather than considering seasonality, longevity, and overall design harmony. Flowers should not only look beautiful but also tell stories, suit the occasion, environment, and purpose of the arrangement.

WHAT IS THE MOST UNDERRATED FLOWER IN YOUR OPINION?

The carnation. When used thoughtfully, it is one of the most versatile flowers available. It comes in a wide range of colors and has excellent longevity. One variety, commonly known as “Green Ball,” is especially valued by florists for its texture, versatility, and lasting quality.

WHAT IS A FLOWER-RELATED QUOTE THAT RESONATES WITH YOU?

There is a quote popularized by floral designer Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht on The Drew Barrymore Show:

“Flowers are not meant to last. Their job is to help us stay in the present. They grow, they blossom, they thrive, and then they’re gone.”

I think it’s a perfect reflection of how we should experience and appreciate flowers.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FLOWER?

I love many types of flowers and plant materials – tree branches, seed pods, vines, and grasses. I’m drawn to tropical flowers for their uniqueness, and to spring flowers for their fragrance and the childhood memories they evoke. I truly believe that every flower has its own beauty and purpose – whether it brings a mood, a colour, a scent, or tells a story. I can’t think of any flower I wouldn’t use. Nature, in all its forms, is perfect.

A NOTE FROM FLEURS DE VILLES:

Formaneta snuck up on Fleurs de Villes two years ago, when we assigned them an art piece to bring to life botanically that was quite a simple white dress with a red shawl coat. The result left me speechleess. The tailored corn husk dress was runway-worthy and the coat was lush, fragrant and full of an fabulous variety of botanicals. Just last year during our Downton Abbey series, crowds were gobmacked by the incredible “Matthew” they created. His stypha grass hair was PERFECTLY Matthew, while they used so many unique and creative materials to bring his otherwise not too exciting uniform to life. Black beans on his shoes and vest, the woven ti leaf pants and that tuxedo shirt that looked 100% real! Fastforward to 2026 and the work they did on their FLORA mannequin, which was so unique and painstakingly intricate to the delight of visitors. The Formaneta team is so creative and visionary, they are a gift not just to the public but other florists who follow us!
