City Guide: Melbourne

Melbourne

By
Sarah Bancroft

Known as the cultural capital of Australia, Melbourne is famous for fashion, street art, contemporary design, and festivals. As Fleurs de Villes NOËL makes its debut in this highly liveable city (from November 10-20, 2022), let’s explore all there is to see and do.

SHOP

Emporium Melbourne where our show takes place is a destination unto itself with an entire floor dedicated to Australian fashion designers. You’ll also find culinary delights like Godiva chocolate boutique and Glacé dessert bar where pastry chef Christy Tania creates sweet treats in pretty boxes from a space designed like a yellow submarine. Another Australian-born concept is AU79 coffee bar, that will remind you of why Melbourne is known as the world’s number one city for coffee (sorry, Seattle)! During our show, don’t miss the flower-bombed luxury vehicle from Genesis in their sophisticated and elegant showroom at Emporium.

ART STROLL

Known for its world-class street art, with city council-designated areas approved for graffiti, an urban vibe imbues Melbourne’s many walkable laneways, including its most famous, Hosier Lane. Another Instagramable destination is the iconic Brighton Beach, where 82 brightly-painted Victorian-era bathing boxes line the sand.

NOSH

November is the month for the Night Noodle Market, a perfect way to cap off a busy day with comfort food. Birrarung Marr on the north bank of the Yarra River is transformed into a vibrant, open-air street food festival with hawkers stalls and entertainment. At Emporium Melbourne, check out the renowned Din Tai Fung with its famous dumplings, or Calia, a unique restaurant-to-retail store offering a modern take on Japanese cuisine.

STAY

French hotelier Sofitel offers its Celestial Suites, 150 metres above Collins Street at this five star location. Imagine: personalized pillow cases and bathrobes, fresh flowers, butler service and more. Don’t miss the stunning Fleurs de Villes holiday installation in the lobby, then take in the sweeping views across Melbourne’s City and Port Phillip Bay while you treat yourself to Melbourne's Highest High Tea at No35 Restaurant.

LEARN

As part of Fleurs de Villes NOËL, a series of interactive botanical-themed workshops and demos will take place from November 10-20 in our JARDIN area.
