Delta Goodrem

“Life is a journey I don’t have a map for.”

Delta Goodrem, Australian singer, songwriter and actress, 1984-present

Signed to Sony Music Australia at the tender age of 15, Australia’s sweetheart Delta Goodrem’s first album, Innocent Eyes, topped the charts at number one for a record-breaking 29 weeks. She was the first Australian artist to have five number one singles from a debut album. As an accomplished songwriter, she has written songs for Olivia Newton-John, Celine Dion, Tony Bennett, Michael Bolton, LeAnn Rimes and Westlife,  and has toured with famed tenor Andrea Bocelli.

Born in Sydney, Goodman has said she started singing at the same age she learned to talk. She was discovered when she sent five tracks to her favourite team, the Sydney Swans, hoping to sing at a football game. Instead, they passed them along to an artist manager who immediately snapped her up. She came to national attention when she was cast as an aspiring singer on popular TV soap-opera Neighbours, where she debuted her first number one hit, “Born to Try” from her debut album. At the age of 18, with her career at full tilt, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. She recently revealed that she had her salivary gland removed as part of her treatment which caused partial paralysis of her tongue, requiring her to re-learn how to speak and sing. After recovering, she picked up where she left off, releasing more hits and becoming a coach on The Voice Australia for eight seasons. One of her most interesting acting roles was the role of Grizabella in Webber’s iconic musical Cats, taking people’s breath away with the ballad “Memories.” She also played the role of her good friend and mentor, the late Olivia Newton-John, in her 2018 biopic.

An astute businesswoman, in 2017, her first fragrance, Delta, became the highest selling fragrance in Australian history. She has been romantically linked to several men, including a tennis star and a rock star, but is notoriously private about her love life. She is currently in a relationship with her guitarist, Matthew Copely.

Goodrem has been involved in raising funds for the Red Cross bushfire relief and, through her Delta Goodrem Foundation, cancer research. In 2021 she released her sixth album and a book, both titled Bridge Over Troubled Dreams. In typical Goodrem style, they both became number one bestsellers.
